SRAE Classroom Program

Our classroom-based program is designed for middle and high school students in Citrus County (most often taking place in HOPE classes), teaching them all about forming loving and healthy relationships. Serving every public school in the county, we use a nationally-recognized relationship education curriculum from the Center for Relationship Education (REAL Essentials) over the span of 9 sessions.

Topics include:

  • Learning about yourself and others
  • Navigating conflict
  • Skills for communication and decision making
  • Friendship development
  • Dating, love, marriage, and commitment
  • Understanding cultural influences
  • Planning for the future
  • *Sexual health

All of these topics are covered under the idea that youth need education on how to relate to themselves, to others, and to the world around them. Our facilitators are trained and certified in this particular curriculum by The Center for Relationship Education to help them deliver life-changing relationship skills training in classrooms everywhere.

*Our youth program covers the state-mandated educational topic of sexual health and qualifies as Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE). This framework encourages students to avoid sexual risk altogether because, at their age, sexual activity can harm your relationship with yourself — your future and your goals — and with the people you care about. We discuss how loving and healthy relationships can actually protect you and lead to greater flourishing. Aspire Relationship Educators are certified by Ascend in Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA), an educational approach based on the public health model of primary prevention to empower youth to avoid ALL the risks of sexual activity. We work closely with the Florida Department of Health to present the latest facts and stats relevant to youth in our community. It is not your old-school sexual health class with scary pictures and awkward props. We lead with a message of encouragement and hope rather than discouragement and fear.

Our classroom program is fun and engaging! We use classroom demonstrations, activities, worksheets, videos and much more. Our goal is to provide the education and support that youth need to practice and experience healthier relationships that lead to better lives.
